I have a new name

Last weekend at Parkview our pastor began a sermon series on the names of God. The first one he discussed was Yahweh - I AM. I'm not going to give you his whole sermon, but if you'd like to listen to it you can - here.

Here it is in the simplest way I can say it:
God is I AM -
I AM in control, I AM perfect, I AM forever, I AM your savior, I AM the creator, I AM... you get the idea.

If God is I AM, then it is logical to conclude that my name is I AM NOT -
I AM NOT in control, I AM NOT perfect, I AM NOT forever, I AM NOT your savior, I AM NOT the creator... etc. etc.

This is a huge thing for me. And I need a reminder. Perhaps you do, too - can't tell ya - however, I could use that reminder every day, many times a day. So I changed my name.

Do I ever need that reminder-- so many things feel out of my control over here in the UK and I waste a lot of energy kicking against God.

The new template is pretty. I need to change mine too!

GREAT new name! God changed people's names when He had changed them personally in their walk with Him ... Saul to Paul; Jacob to Israel; Simon to Peter; JD to I AM NOT.

Love the new look. . .it's not pink but I can get used to that!

Great new name~never thought of it just like that but SO true.

And SO glad Ryann is OK! What a scare.

I'm so moved by this concept...it's so simple yet so profound! Wouldn't life just be easier if we could remember we are NOT. Your pastor rocks!

Glad to hear Ryann is ok...my heart was breaking just reading your post, so sorry you had to go through that...but way to keep your cool mommy!

Forgive me for this being so long but you reminded me of a song that I love to turn really loud and just loose (lose?) myself in.

Mark Schultz - I Am

I am the maker of the Heavens
I am the bright and morning star
I am the breath of all Creation
Who always was
And is to come

I am the One who walked on water
I am the One who calmed the seas
I am the miracles and wonders
So come and see
And follow me
You will know

I am the fount of living water
The risen Son of man
The healer of the broken
And when you cry
I am your savior and redeemer
Who bore the sins of man
The author and perfecter
Beginning and the end
I am

I am the spirit deep inside you
I am the word upon your heart
I am the One who even knew you
Before your birth
Before you were

Before the Earth (I am)
The universe (I am)
In every heart (I am)
Oh, where you are (I am)
The Lord of love (I am)
The King of Kings (I am)
The Holy lamb (I am)
Above all things

Yes, I am almighty God your father
The risen son of man
The healer of the broken
And when you cry
I am your savior and redeemer
Who bore the sins of man
The author and perfecter
Beginning and the end
I am
